Washington Huskies’ Jake Locker cleared to play
According to a tweet sent out by Washington Huskies' head coach Steve Sarkisian, star quarterback Jake Locker has been cleared to play in the club’s week 12 game against the UCLA Bruins.
Locker has been struggling with a rib injury throughout the second half of the season. The youngster suffered a bruised rib in his club’s game against the Oregon State Beavers on 16 October. He was then cleared to play against the Arizona Wildcats the following
week, however he re-injured his side in the process. Unfortunately, during the following game against the Stanford Cardinals, Locker broke the bruised rib, forcing him out of his squad’s week 10 loss to the Oregon Ducks.
The Huskies had a bye in week 11, which gave the senior time to recover, and after a team practice on Tuesday 16 November, Sarkisian tweeted that he would get the start against the Bruins on Thursday 18 November.
If Locker was unable to go on Thursday the start would have fallen to red shirt freshman Keith Price, who played in the Huskies' embarrassing 53-16 loss to the Ducks in week 10.
Locker’s recovery could not have come at a more opportune time, considering the Huskies have dropped their last three games. Moreover, Washington currently sits at 3-6 with a 2-4 record against conference opponents, and with three games left, they will have
to win out in order to be bowl eligible.
The three games remaining on Washington’s schedule are winnable, as they take on the Bruins, the California Golden Bears and the Washington State Cougars. None of these clubs have winning records, and with a healthy Locker the Huskies offence may be able
to come alive.
The Huskies will be at home in Husky Stadium when they take on the Bruins on Thursday.
