Washington Mystics strike late to topple the New York Liberty 64-63 – WNBA Recap (Part-2)
Washington Mystics started the game with a 9-4 run to take the lead. New York Liberty immediately answered back with a seven point unanswered run to take their first lead of the game at 11-9. The lead was however not long lived
as Nicky Anosike slipped in a layup to make it 11-11 on the next possession.
Both the teams failed to score in the next 1:53, before Plenette Pierson broke the jinx with a putback jumper at 2:07 mark. It was answered by a layup from Crystal Langhorne 20 seconds later and the game again went into a deadlock
at 13 all.
Langhorne gave Mystics the lead a nearly 40 seconds later, but with Alex Montgomery hitting two three’s on back to back possession and Leilani Mitchell following with a three point play, Liberty took 22-17 with 23.7 seconds to

Mitchell led Liberty with 8 points in the first ten minutes  and started the second quarter with another dagger from the three point range to extend New York’s lead to six points (25-19). Walker brought the deficit to four, a minute
later when she slipped in a layup, but with 7:50 to go in the break, Nicole Powell knocked down a 3 to initiate a 9-0 run that was capped by a Cappie Pondexter jump shot, stretching Liberty’s lead to 13 points, the highest on the night.
This was where Matee Ajavon took over the game. She started with three free throws and after Quanitra Hollingsworth countered with two from the stripe, she nailed a trey to start a 10 point unanswered spurt that ended when Jasmine
Thomas banged in a three.
Ajavon scored five points in that spurts that brought the scores to 34-36. Pondexter responded with a three on the next Liberty possession to make it a five point game, before Coleman hot two free throws to make it 36-39 at the
break.
Liberty knocked down six three pointer in the first half of the game. They were led into the break by Mitchell, who scored 11 points and 5 assists while Cappie Pondexter scored 9 points.
