Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper lives up to his pre-game confidence - MLB Update
Centre fielder Bryce Harper shines at the plate in the final contest of the National League Division Series between Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite the fact his team lost, he produced quality hits. He struck a home-run and a triple on Friday.
His impressive show has come in the background of his comments before the game in which he stated that he is not frustrated by his recent lack of form and that he will stand out in the last match.
The fact Harper actually stepped up and struck for a couple of hits on Friday shows that he has developed confidence in his ability. Besides, he appears to be temperamentally stronger now than he was in the beginning of the season.
Earlier, on a number of occasions, he demonstrated typical teenage behaviour in the field which led his team-mates to maintain that he is young and will learn with time.
For example, he was getting aggressive at the plate more than what is usually required during play. Frequently in an attempt to hit every pitch for a home-run, he missed a great number of at-bats.
However, during the playoffs when he inquired about his hitless outings at the plate, far from speaking anything negative, he expressed faith in his ability.
He clarified that it is just a matter of time when he starts hitting properly again. He then proved in the final NLDS contest that what he believes about him is actually true.
He led the Nationals in the beginning by helping them post substantial lead on Friday. Unfortunately, he could not see his team winning the game, thanks to poor performance by their pitchers.
“Not really frustrated about it really,” Harper said. “I’m just missing pitches. Popping them up. Just missing. Nothing I can do. Hopefully tomorrow I can come out here and get a few knocks and help our team win.”
Before the match, Harper maintained that once he gets proper at-bats, he will slam for big hits. The level of trust that he expressed in his ability was incredible.
Harper now will be preparing for upcoming season. He will like to improve further and make sure he does not repeat mistakes that he committed in the regular season.
