Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper makes it through the latest roster cuts – MLB News
The Washington Nationals top prospect, Bryce Harper has lasted through the latest round of roster cuts.
The 18-year-old outfielder has managed to last through the first round of roster cuts as well, but is not sure if he will get a place in the Opening Day roster for the Nationals. The team has been very impressed by his overall efforts on the field and has
attracted some attention with his hard work.
Although he has been impressive, it is highly unlikely that he will get a spot on the Opening Day roster and will most likely be sent down to the Minor Leagues.
Harper was in Major Leagues for the Nationals during this spring when he played 12 games as a substitute player. He posted 1 for 2 against the Houston Astros. However, he also made an error in the ninth inning providing chance Astros to take the game. It
was his first defensive imperfection of the season.
The young player knows his faults and is working to improve his performance for a chance to be a part of the Major Leagues.
Nationals’ manager Jim Riggleman commented about Harpers Major League debut.
"I don't know when we're going to do that," Riggleman said. "It may not be, when that time comes, that it's with a group of others. It may be that we keep him around a few days or keep him through the next cut. I don't know yet.”
Harper himself understands the importance of being ready for the Major Leagues by playing in the Minor Leagues and building up his skills to face the potential challenges that might arise if he gets a chance on the Nationals’ roster.
"Right now, no," Harper said about making the Nationals' Opening Day roster. "I totally respect it. I have a lot of things I could learn from Minor League baseball, and I have to go through all the things that everybody has gone through.”
It is quite likely that Harper is sent to Class ‘A’ Hagerstown to complete a regular season and hone his talents. It will not be long before we see Harper in the Major Leagues as his determination and confidence has caught the eye of the Nationals’ management.
