Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper maturing - MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper finally joins the age-bracket in which most of his team-mates fall. Throughout the regular season, writers used the term teenage excessively whenever Harper became part of the discussions. His youthful flamboyance
was fascinating for the fans.
Harper struck home-runs and registered impressive offensive numbers in the season as he bagged appreciation from experts.
Most of the players that exhibit the level of excellence at the plate that Harper showed during the season reach that stage after years of experience in the Minor League.
As Harper demonstrated skills at such a young age, he remained part of the spotlight and drew attention wherever he went in the season.
In the upcoming year, Harper will not be enjoying the privilege of being a teenager and the honour that comes with this label.
Harper’s entry in 2012 season was triggered by injuries to some of the established Nationals’ batters. Otherwise, it was being expected that he will not be released for the Major League so early.
Harper grabbed the opportunity with both hands. As soon as he joined the line-up, he became permanent member of it. His consistent shows at the plate did not let the Nationals remove him by the time the other players returned from injuries.
By the start of the second half of the season, Harper made a name among the players that the Nationals will count on heavily in the important matches. Late in the season is always crucial and the teams previously holding top position on table can drop to
second spot.
In this regard, it was vital for the Nationals to keep their dominance afloat and not allow any opposition to snatch their leading position on the table from them.
Harper was their leading run contributor by the time the Nationals played their most critical matches in the latter half of the regular season.
Even in the last game of the National League Division Series against St. Louis Cardinals, Harper produced a home-run and a triple. Although the Nationals lost, his contribution was stand out.
Harper will be looking to build on his rookie season and make sure he keeps striking home-runs and putting incredible numbers in the years to come.
