Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper shows confidence heading into a new season – MLB News
The Washington Nationals’ young future prospect outfielder Bryce Harper has started Spring Training with the franchise and working hard to get a potential chance to play on Opening Day.
Harper, who has no past Major League experience, is talking with confidence in this offseason during 2012 Spring Training Camps in Arizona and explaining why he is so confident heading into a fresh season. He has told the reporters that he is pretty confident and will be playing positive role in Nationals’ next season in order to achieve good and consistent results.
He also explained that his total concentration will be on the game. He said, “I’m going to work as hard as I can, keep my mouth shut and play, I’m going to make their decision hard as much as I can. I want to be up here. I want to play, and I want to play in D.C. Even last year, I was disappointed, I came here, and I wanted to make the team last year.”
He added, “This year, I’m trying to come here and make the team. Hopefully, things work out and we won’t have to talk about me going down to the minors.”
A Los Vegas native, Harper was signed by the Nationals in 2010 when they drafted him with first overall pick. Coming into the Nationals' fall instructional league in 2011, Harper proved his game batting at .319 with a .407 OBP and leading his team in hits, homers, RBI and walks; he certainly passed the first major hurdle to become a professional baseball player.
Later Harper went onto play in the Arizona Fall League and again performed tremendously paving grounds to play in the next Majors for the Nationals. According to some experts, Harper needs more time to perfect his game but many also believe as this is the right time for him to display his talent in-front of world class players. His game has covered some extra miles to reach that level where his team is hoping a great season with him. The next weeks are critical before the Spring Training ends as the Nationals will be deciding on Harper’s future season’s final placement.
