Washington Nationals’ Chien-Ming Wang comes off disabled list - MLB Update
On Tuesday the Washington Nationals have activated their starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang from the disabled list. Suffering with pain in his right hip, Wang has been absent from the rotation for the last two months.
Although he has struggled this year and has failed to record a reasonable number of wins, he is capable of improving sharply and turning opinion in his favour.
Wang is unfortunate to be inflicted by injuries in the last two years. His relatively unimpressive performances can be viewed in this perspective.
The start of this season accompanied a lot of expectations from the Nationals on him. In light of the fact that his career win-loss record is incredible, expecting him to play a major role along with Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez was not wrong.
As soon as Wang was fit and ready to throw, he was given the opportunity by Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson. However, the injuries had plagued his arsenal of skills to such an extent that he lost control and command as he laboured hard for restricting batters
in matches.
Most of the games in which he started his throws were way-ward and were not hitting the spot on the strike zone where he wanted. Therefore he leaked runs and hits to suffer losses as a result.
Now he is joining the team after a span of almost two months. As he has gone through the rehabilitation process, the team officials will be hoping that he delivers terrific shows on the mound and makes up for his poor starts earlier.
Wang has joined the team at a time when he can become hero by putting up splendours and winning important matches.
Considering the shut-down of the ace Stephen Strasburg after September 12, it will be interesting to see as to what role he is given in his absence.
While Wang has the potential to win matches on a regular basis, his performance in rehab games suggests he will take some time before he reaches prime form.
Meanwhile, he will be aware of the fact that the Nationals currently boast one of the best pitchers in baseball in their rotation. Fitting in the equation and coming at par with the peers in terms of performance will not be easy for him.
