Washington Nationals Dan Haren stresses on motivating each other by five starters in rotation-MLB
The newly inducted starting pitcher in Washington Nationals, Dan Haren has emphasised on encouragement and motivation by the teammates to one another.
He believes in order to make the dream of the Nationals winning World Series victory next year true, all the pitchers in the rotation should say words that boost confidence of each other.
Haren has been recently acquired by the Nationals from the free agency. As a veteran, he is supposed to spearhead the pitching staff of the team, which consists of a majority of younger players.
The starters such as Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez may have a repertoire of excellence but they have yet to go a long way to learn the art of throwing in important games.
In this regard, Dan Haren can help them immensely. He can pass on his skills to the young arms in the club and aid them into becoming quality hurlers.
There is an equal possibility that the Nationals may have hired him for no other reason than to teach necessary skills to the pitchers in the club.
Giving him only one-year contract at a substantial $13 million further puts light on the possible aims of the Nationals behind his acquisition.
Washington boasts a long list of hurlers in their farm system. Within a span of a few years, they are likely to transpire at the Major League level.
In this respect, by the time Haren leaves the club after one-year, they will have ready to be Major Leaguers in their farm system that replace him.
Commenting on his role in the team, Haren shows the realisation of the significance of confidence which is given to the players by their teammates.
He understands his responsibilities in this regard as he appears to have resolved to carry them out to the best of his abilities.
"On teams that I've been [on] in the past," Haren stated."I think it's important just for the starting staff, those five guys, to be close, to be each other's no.1 fans when they're out there, always being on the bench and pulling for the guy. It's fun when
you have a cohesive unit like that and you can turn the rotation over with a lot of success.”
Haren has further put light on the kind of personality he is. He is of the view that being social and doing conversations with players is not difficult for him.
"I'll do all I can," Haren said, "I'm pretty open with talking to guys. Even with teams I've been [with] in the past, I think everyone feels comfortable talking to me.”
Undoubtedly, the best way Haren can serve the Nationals is by throwing impeccably during the next season.
If he remains strong at the mound and the rest of the hurlers also carry on their form that they gained in the last season, it is easy to predict the Nationals will win the World Series glory during the 2013 Major League season.
