Washington Nationals’ Davey Johnson finds positives in two week sit out of Chien-Ming Wang - MLB
Reports are confirmed now that Chien-Ming Wang is off at least for two weeks. As is implied that injury can go on even for many weeks, regular season which is just three weeks away may become a lost one for him or at minimum he may have to miss out on the
first few weeks.
An interesting fact this injury has led to a revelation of is the place Davey Johnson, Nationals' manager, had decided for him during the season. Because of the fact that he was to be used as a fifth starter and as the club needs that spot only after the
passage of few weeks of the season, manager is happy that at least the injury will give him some time to rest.
Regardless of what manager perceives, the fact however is the Nationals confront severe injury problems ahead. Wilson Ramos, their designated hitter has appeared today in his first Spring outing after recovering from a long injury and even if he gets 100
percent fit in time, he has to take few weeks before getting his plate discipline.
John Lannan has not fared the way Nationals wanted as yet and the fact he is to be a replacement for Wang until he is unfit, Nationals have to answer many questions as to whether he can be equally good.
The fact that Lannan has career win-loss record of 38-51 and Wang is at 59-29 will go on to amplify concerns for Nationals on matter of possible substitutes.
Against all odds Johnson finds a silver lining and believes that everything will be right during the season.
“Looking on the positive side, it’s probably not a bad thing to have a little breather,” Johnson said. “That’s not the worst thing that can happen.”
Some believe it is an amazing performance Wang put up the other day against New York Yankees that has wrongly led him to show optimism and that if he takes to a deeper end of the issue, things are not that rosy.
As most of the players are being vulnerable to injuries with every Spring Training game they are playing and club have lost seven of their 12 outings, only time will tell to what extent Johnson’s optimism is true.
