Washington Nationals’ Davey Johnson to allow his regular starters to relax - MLB Update

Once the Division Championship has been won, the Washington Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson will not employ his regular starters for the remaining games in the regular season. Regardless of the criticism that may follow this decision, Johnson is steadfast
in his contention that what he has declared is right.
With the fact that he will give opportunities to other players on the roster now, teams which are fighting for making it to the playoffs have a chance to beat them and strengthen their credentials.
This season has seen the Nationals taking bold moves. In particular their manager has been audacious with regard to resting players and offering them opportunities when they were in a position to perform well. Right from Spring Training up until now, Johnson
has been attacking and has told his players to be aggressive in the field.
Earlier the Nationals shut-down their ace Stephen Strasburg on the premise that he is being saved for the future. Despite the fact intense criticism emerged, they did not alter their strategy.
Right now when the Nationals are not far from securing their place in the post-season, Johnson has decided to withdraw his starters so that they can enjoy some time off the field and rest.
The idea behind this is as Johnson believes the players who are actually talented but have not earned many opportunities to demonstrate it will now be allowed to unleash their prodigy.
While talking about the uncertainly regarding which team they will come across in the post-season, Johnson has resisted denouncing the Major League Baseball.
"I don't like to criticize Major League Baseball, but from an operational standpoint, to line up your pitching, it's very difficult. It's great for the fans, but boy, for a manager, it's tough," Johnson said. "It's actually easier for the clubs fighting
for the wild card, because they'll know who they have to beat to move ahead. And then if they get it, they'll know who they're going to play. I don't. I shouldn't be handicapped that way."
The Nationals will be eyeing on October and anticipating which team they will play the first game with in the post-season.
It will be interesting to see as to how long they can take their current success in the season and whether they can convert it into something substantial.
