Washington Nationals’ Ian Desmond joins contenders for Gold Glove Award - MLB Update
Washington Nationals' Ian Desmond is among those shortstops in the National League who will probably clinch the Gold Glove Award. His competitors for the honour include Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins and Zack Cozart.
Besides stepping up at the plate, Desmond has been incredible defensively. Fumbles in a few occasions apart, he rightly fulfilled his responsibilities as shortstop in the field.
Standing at such a crucial position and living up to the requirements is nothing short of a challenge. This along with the fact that errors committed at this position more often than not prove fatal for a team shows that Desmond did not disappoint the Nationals
by struggling with regard to defence.
By the time the injuries surfaced in the Nationals’ camp, the danger of getting progress hampered loomed large. In the absence of Morse and Zimmerman, it was extremely difficult for the Nationals to stay afloat, both offensively and defensively. Thanks to
Desmond, they managed to get through the lean period without facing many defeats.
Furthermore, Desmond secured his name in the All-Star Game roster, following his consistent shows in the field and at the plate in the first half of the season.
While he was ecstatic after the announcement, he could not feature in the match because of an injury.
He refrained from playing due to the fears that he may end up aggravating the state of his injury.
Understandably, he was disappointed. Making it to the ASG is a dream come true scenario for a player.
Unfortunately Desmond could not experience the atmosphere of such a high profile contest between the National League and the American League, despite having the credentials to be a part of it.
Right now, Desmond will be hoping that he clinches the Gold Glove glory. In light of the fact that only Zimmerman has ever won this honour for the Nationals before, it will be a tremendous achievement for Desmond if he joins the third baseman in this list.
Other than Desmond, first baseman Adam LaRoche is another player from the Nationals who is part of the finalists from the National League for the Gold Glove glory.
If both of these players go on to earn this accolade, it will be another addition to the list of the laurels that the Nationals achieved in the season.
Regardless of whether Desmond wins the Award or not, he will be satisfied with his performance in the season.
