Washington Nationals’ Jayson Werth relishes his walk-off home run in Game 4 of NLDS - MLB Update
Outfielder Jayson Werth attempts to recall those moments when he struck a home-run and led his team to victory.
While due to the pressure of the game he was unable to picture them in his mind properly, he is watching videos of his walk-off homer in order to keep them in memory.
It appears that he is unable to escape the mania of happiness that gripped his mind following the triumph. He is so ecstatic that he loves recalling his performance in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.
Werth started off the season as one of the most reliable batters in the team’s line-up.
Right from the beginning, expectations were high from him. Given the fact that he was awarded $126 million seven year contract in 2010 by the Washington Nationals, he was supposed to play a significant role in their success.
Unfortunately he met an injury and stayed out for number of weeks during the season. As a result, the Nationals played without their reliable batter.
When Werth returned from injury, he immediately asserted his significance by slamming home-runs and striking hits consistently.
In the latter half of the regular season, he along with centre fielder Bryce Harper struck an ideal combination in the line-up and helped the Nationals post substantial number of runs on the scoreboard.
Werth terms the winning moments in Game 4 as one of the most cherished parts of his life. He considers himself lucky for finding an opportunity for becoming part of such a high profile game.
“I thought the whole thing was cool,” Werth said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. You don’t get the opportunities for those things. Luckily, I’ve played in a lot of postseason games and had a lot of opportunities. Not too many players even get the opportunity
for that. Just to be here right now, I think, is awesome.”
Werth has added that although he played in the post-season before, smacking a home-run for a team that borders on the brink of getting eliminated at a crucial juncture of the match is unprecedented.
Unfortunately the Nationals have lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth game of the NLDS. Werth will be disappointed as this can eclipse his splendour at the plate in the fourth game.
