Washington Nationals’ Justin Maxwell traded to New York Yankees – MLB News
The Washington Nationals traded their outfielder Justin Maxwell to the New York Yankees for the right handed Adam Olbrychowski on February 3, 2011.
Maxwell is happy with trade as he will be given an opportunity with the highest rated and most respected team, the New York Yankees. He had a decent average with the Nationals as he managed to get three home-run and 12 RBIs with an average of .144 in 67
games during 2010. Maxwell also maintained a batting average of .287 when he played at Triple-A Syracuse for 66 games, hitting six home-runs and 21 RBIs.
Justin was very excited by his trade to the Yankees and said, "I feel blessed that the Yankees were willing to take a chance on me considering I'm coming off offseason surgery. I'm excited for the new opportunity and for the new year."
All has not been so great for Maxwell, as he suffered from a fracture in his left elbow. He underwent Tommy John Surgery at the end of 2010. It looks like he has successfully recovered from his injuries and is looking forward to putting in a good performance
for the Yankees.
It looks like the Yankees are trying to develop some depth in their outfield and they feel that Maxwell is perfect that role. He will be joined with Greg Golson and Colin Curtis in the outfield.
Maxwell is confident that he can provide the Yankees with what they need as he said, "If they're thinking more outfield depth to give the team some options, I'm just happy they're willing to take a chance on me considering my circumstance. I'm looking forward
to starting the season."
In this trade, the Nationals get Adam Olbrychowski. He had an impressive batting average with a 4.04 ERA and a 3-2 Win-Loss record in 30 games. His most recent assignment has been pitching at Class-A Tampa. The Nationals will be hoping Adam will make the
adjustment and put in some good pitching performances for the team during Spring Training.
It will be interesting to see if Maxwell and Olbrychowski can make some sort of impression in their new respective teams as Spring Training is starting. Both players will be hoping to prove their worth for a spot in the final roster as the regular season
will begin.
Spring Training will be the true test for the players as the competition is fierce and all of the teams are looking to win and build some confidence in their teams. The Yankees will be watching Maxwell’s performance carefully as the Nationals will be looking
to Olbrychowski to add some depth to their pitching rotation.
