Washington Nationals’ Randy Knorr endorses shut-down decision of Stephen Strasburg-MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ bench coach, Randy Knorr has lauded the move of shutting down Stephen Strasburg during the season. He is of the view that if he was not restricted, he may have suffered an injury by now.
Clarifying further, he believes that pitchers returning to the mound following a Tommy John surgery are vulnerable to getting other parts of their body affected.
It has become a routine matter for the experts to criticise the shut-down move by the Nationals of Strasburg. They are confident in their contention that with the presence of Strasburg on rotation, the Nationals will have gone deep in the post-season as
opposed to be eliminated early.
Irrespective of the experts’ disapproval, most of the Nationals’ officials are not regretful, as far as the impact of the restriction of Strasburg on their performance is concerned.
They view innings limit of their ace as part of the long-term planning about the club. Instead of trying to squeeze everything out of Strasburg in one season, they fancy splendours from him for number of years.
For this, they are according special care to their spearhead in the pitching department.
Knorr has joined the list of those Nationals’ members that are highly in favour of the ideal of innings-limit. Knorr has stated that signs of a potential injury to Strasburg were visible in the last couple of matches before he was removed.
“I have no regrets,” Knorr said. “The years I’ve managed, being up here, it’s always been like that for me: It’s always about the player first. It’s so easy for people to say, ‘You only have one shot at that.’ And that’s fine. If that’s the way it is, it’s
not meant to be. A lot of people, what they don’t realize, guys with Tommy John, they don’t hurt their elbow any more. They end up hurting another body part. Watching him pitch his last three games, he looked tired to me. People don’t see that.”
Nationals will be looking to prepare Strasburg for the upcoming season. They will like to see him continue throwing at his potential and winning matches for the team.
