Washington Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman misses game again as pain in lower back remains – MLB News
The Washington Nationals’ third-baseman Ryan Zimmerman continues to be troubled by the pain in his lower back as he misses the game on Wednesday. As per the reports, he is ready to play tomorrow, but if the problem stays then his comeback into the side may
be prolonged.
Zimmerman has turned out to be one of the most consistent hitters in the Nationals’ line-up since start of the second half of the season.
However, before the All-Star break, he suffered shoulder inflammation due to which his performance had been seriously affected.
At one point in the season, his inability to strike hits concerned the team officials immensely. Even the fans started talking about possible replacements after watching their third-baseman putting up dismal shows on the plate.
However, Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson always afforded faith in him and kept believing that Zimmerman is going to become their major offensive contributor later in the season.
Rightly so, Zimmerman rewarded the faith. He stood up so strong in the second half that even when the rest of the line-up struggled, he did not stop hitting homers and contributing RBIs.
Meanwhile, his injury comes at a time when he is the most prolific hitter in the Nationals’ offence. Therefore, the concerns of the management are mounting as he remains out for another game.
However the fact he is confident that he can play soon is a positive sign for the team.
“I told them, ‘Hey, if you need me in the game or if something were to happen to a couple people, I wasn’t dead,’” Zimmerman said. “I could come in and so some stuff. But today feels way better than yesterday. Tomorrow, it’ll feel even better with the way
it’s been recovering. I’ll be in there tomorrow. Trace needs to get some at-bats, too. Give him some at-bats to get in the swing of things, and I’ll be in there tomorrow.”
In case Zimmerman is unable to recover in time, Chad Tracy will be taking his position in the field and in the line-up.
Regardless of how Tracy performs, getting Zimmerman back at the earliest will be what the Nationals want at the earliest.
