Washington Nationals all set to make free agency buying to fill vacant spots - MLB Update
As the offseason is underway, Washington Nationals have a range of issues to address before heading toward 2013 Major League regular season. Their first baseman Adam LaRoche is uncertain to return next year, because he is a free agent at the moment. First
and foremost priority of the club will be to retain him.
Apart from this, their rotation requires one more arm. Edwin Jackson has not been pursued by the Nationals owing to his poor shows on the mound in the last season.
As a result, they need a starter that can play for them for the next season.
Up until now, the Nationals have not taken any move concerning rotation. They are expected to do so within a next few days.
They have a number of options available in the free agent market. Only hurdle on their way toward acquiring an excellent starting pitcher can be the money issue. Top free agents demand high salaries, which can make it difficult for the Nationals to live
up to their aspirations.
Zack Greinke is one of the free agents that Washington might be willing to offer a lucrative deal to. This is because he fits in their system easily. The Nationals are known for possessing powerful arms. In order to reinforce the notion of having incredible
arms, existence of Greinke in the team can go a long way.
As far as the possibility of retaining LaRoche in the club is concerned, nothing can be said with certainty.
LaRoche will want a long-term contract extension, which the Nationals may not find affordable. If other organisations grant LaRoche a good deal, for example worth more than two years with a yearly salary of above $14 million, it will be hard for Washington
to have him playing again for them.
Adam was amazing during the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Both, offensively and defensively, his contributions were decisive. His ability to strike home-runs consistently was one of the reasons why the Nationals’ offence stayed afloat in the
face of injuries to main players.
As an acknowledgment of his tremendous success in the field, he was awarded the Gold Glove Award at first base.
It will be fascinating to see the decisions that the Nationals make during the offseason.
