Washington Nationals and Steve Lombardozzi campaign for collecting donations for Sandy victims-MLB
Rookie outfielder for Washington Nationals, Steve Lombardozzi has joined hands with the club in their efforts to collect funds, which are to be distributed amongst Hurricane Sandy’s victims.
The sufferings endured by the people living in the Northeast have hurt Lombardozzi.
He is enthusiastic about transferring supplies to affected areas and helping them in this way.
Lombardozzi is not alone in his endeavours to amass donations. He along with his family is actively participating in the events relating to the collection of funds.
Expressing his gratitude on participating in such a cause, he is passionate about bringing happiness back on the faces of those impacted by the ravages of Sandy.
It is for the first time that he has taken part in a social activity. He is experiencing peculiar feelings that he has not realised ever before.
“I’m excited,” he said. “I really haven’t done something like this before. I hope people really step up and it’s a good turnout and we get a lot of stuff and we can go make an impact."
Lombardozzi is optimistic that a huge number of people will show up in the events organised for the donations and contribute.
There are various other Major League Baseball players that spend most of their offseason time in charitable activities.
The other day, Philadelphia Phillies’ shortstop, Jimmy Rollins organised the Fall Charity Gala to invite donors and grant money for the Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania.
Lombardozzi is new to charity related activities but the fact he is young and has a long baseball career ahead gives reason to believe that he will continue participating in such events in the future.
Steve knows some of the Minor League players in the Nationals who hail from those areas where Sandy wreaked its impact. He has been in contact with them after the news broke out.
“When you have people that you know, you’re checking on them to see how they’re doing,” he said. “But it’s even bigger picture than that. That shouldn’t have to motivate you.”
It is a great sign for the game itself that many of players attached to it care for humanity. It is hoped that this practice will continue.
