Washington Nationals are beaten 1-4 by New York Yankees as Edwin Jackson gives up homer-MLB Update
Starter Edwin Jackson gives up a home run in a low scoring game as the Washington Nationals are defeated 1-4 by the New York Yankees on June 17, 2012 in third game of the three match series at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
Floating Nationals have been humbled with a sweep. A side leading the National League East Division table has been pushed back seriously.
Throughout the series, Yankees did not lend any opportunity, which they could use to record a consolation victory.
An ease with which Yankees routed Nationals is more revealing than the defeats they hammered.
On Sunday, after two innings score was tied. It was to be no surprise that the Nationals went on to win from there onwards.
However, an apt display of competency from the part of Yankees meant that regardless of where the game stands, they have all what it takes to pull off wins.
Exactly in the same manner, they got their starter to put a plug on runs. Meanwhile, their hitters produced enough runs that they will keep Nationals at bay.
Although, the Nationals managed seven hits, they were unable to convert them into sufficient number of runs.
Centre fielder Bryce Harper connected two hits in four at-bats.
Third-baseman Ryan Zimmerman continued slumping on plate as he had another hitless game.
Missing four at-bats, he is testing patience of the manager Davey Johnson and putting him on the brink of calling up replacements from the Minor Leagues.
Zimmerman stressed the need to start performing better. If the Nationals have to prove their dominance across the board, every player will be fulfilling responsibilities.
"We've got to play better than that," Ryan Zimmerman said, "if we want to beat teams like that."
First baseman Adam LaRoche finds positives on conclusion of the series.
"I think that's the one good thing that came this weekend," said Adam LaRoche. "That's about as close to a playoff atmosphere as you're going to get. ... You get the place packed, people going crazy and obviously it draws a lot of media attention. It'll
be good for these guys, especially the young guys, to get used to that."
Nationals will like to take the series an exception. They will hope to continue their expedition the way they have been throughout the season.
