Washington Nationals beat New York Mets 4-3 as Jordan Zimmermann throws quality innings-MLB Update

Starter Jordan Zimmermann throws six scoreless innings as he lead the Washington Nationals to 4-3 win over the New York Mets on July 18 at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. in the second game of their three match series.
Mets woes continue as their tally of losses reaches six games after the break. After getting crushed by the Atlanta Braves, they are now being taken up with heavy hands by the Nationals.
With the defeat on Wednesday, the series has been lost by New York.
Primarily, the pitchers have been a weak-link with the Mets. On Wednesday, their starter Chris Young allowed the Nationals to claim the lead. Similarly, their relief pitcher Miguel Batista, instead of restricting Washington from substantiating the lead,
gave up two runs in little less than one inning.
On the other hand, Nationals’ starter Zimmermann was solid in six innings as he did not allow the Mets to score runs. Similarly, their relief pitchers protected the lead.
As far as the offence was concerned, Washington saw Adam LaRoche and Steve Lombardozzi connecting productive hits. The home-run that LaRoche struck initiated the progress for the Nationals, which eventually helped in winning the game.
Meanwhile, after losing their sixth game in a row, Mets’ manager Terry Collins calls upon the need to experience all-round performances as opposed to looking for redeemers and one man shows.
"There are no saviors. Just continue to battle and battle, get out of this and go win six in a row. That's the only way you can play. We have a great clubhouse. Watch each other's backs and continue to move forward," Collins said.
Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson cannot be wrong if he hesitates giving the ball to Tyler Clippard next time in the last inning. On Wednesday, Clippard gave up two runs. Though he was successful in shielding the lead, his throws were unimpressive.
"I wanted to stay aggressive. I didn't want to walk anybody or allow anybody on base -- stay away from the big inning. Got a couple of bad pitches out over the plate to some good hitters -- and they got me," Clippard said.
For the next game, the Mets will be looking for a consolation victory, where as the Nationals will aim to complete the three match sweep.
