Washington Nationals boast luxury of reliable catchers for 2013 Major League regular season-MLB
Washington Nationals will be fortunate to have quality catchers available for their expedition in 2013 Major League regular season.
Wilson Ramos, a brilliant and very talented catcher in baseball, will be ready. Although he endured severe injury during the season, he will be in the line-up for the next season.
Along with Ramos, the Nationals will host Jesus Flores, Sandy Leon and Kurt Suzuki.
Flores and Suzuki were incredible during the season, both defensively and offensively. They did not let the Nationals suffer issues in their catching department in the absence of Ramos.
Ramos was going perfectly before his expedition was put to halt by a major knee injury.
Apart from being an incredible catcher, he was a force to reckon with in the team’s offence.
In-fact at the start of the season when some of the Nationals’ batters missed out on the matches due to injuries, he stepped up and kept the team’s offence afloat.
While some believed the Nationals will suffer immensely when Ramos departed from the season, they were immediately amazed by the fact that his replacement turned out to be equally good. Flores performed his role extremely well as a replacement.
Only potential worry for the Nationals can be the injury prone nature of Flores and possibly of Ramos, following his problems with his knee. At worst, they can be witnessing lengthy disabled list stints as soon as the next season begins for the Nationals.
It is because of the likelihood of the injury to their catcher Flores that made the Nationals acquire Suzuki through trade in the season.
As the Nationals inched closer to qualifying for the playoffs, they did not want to risk taking Flores into the post-season alone.
They obtained an experienced campaigner Suzuki, who then rightly lived up to the requirement of the team. Suzuki was prolific at the plate. He produced home-runs late in the season along with the likes of Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse in the line-up.
As far as the preparations for the upcoming season is concerned, the Nationals appear to be without much of a problem at-least in their catching department. It will be interesting to see as to what kind of steps they take in the offseason in this connection.
