Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos suffers a torn ACL - MLB News
MRI examination confirms the fate of Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos. As was feared immediately after he fell behind the plate while chasing a passed ball, he has injured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
His injury came at a time when he was about to launch his best as an important component of the Nationals’ offence. Unlike substitute catchers the Nationals have, his ability to make huge hits and do fine plays behind the plate distinguishes him.
In light of the fact that the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson was already concerned about offence, this very loss in their line-up will fuel his worries.
Although a replacement in the form of Jesus Flores has been called up, it will be over-ambitious to expect him filling the void right away.
This injury is a latest addition to a long list that the Nationals as a club are living with.
Earlier Jayson Werth met with an injury, taking him out of the season for weeks. As a result, an already weakened offence of the Nationals received a horrible dent.
Way before Werth had been injured; an announcement about left fielder, Michael Morse had been made that his strained right lat will keep him out of most part of the season.
Frustrated on what is happening with them after every game, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson is creating analogies between various things, in an attempt to see reasoning behind their run of misfortune in season.
"We're going to have to start eating bananas or something to change our luck," Johnson said. "We've had more than our fair share of key players go down."
The manager realises that even if the club is leading National League East Division at the moment, stability of their position on table will be difficult if some of their premier players do not rehabilitate in time.
Johnson has turned out a smart operator in managing injuries, especially the way he has shown fore-sight in decisions and how effectively the replacements he has employed have worked.
Off-course, getting injured players back will be an ideal scenario. It is something the manager will be looking forward to as season progresses.
