Washington Nationals clinch 6-2 win against Toronto Blue Jays as Tyler Moore hits homers - MLB
First baseman Tyler Moore thrashes two home-runs as he helps the Washington Nationals defeat Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 in third game of the three match series on June 13 at Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario.
Dominance that the Nationals have maintained so far remains unchallenged as they complete a sweep against the Blue Jays, beating them in their home.
On Wednesday, at the back of quality throws by the starter Stephen Strasburg and two home-runs struck by Moore, they disallowed Blue Jays for consolation victory.
The second inning saw Washington posting two run lead, before Blue Jays bounced back and tied in the bottom of the third. However, the Nationals remained steady and went on to restore the lead, which was later duly protected by their relievers.
Hunger for drawing strike-outs seems insatiable for starter Strasburg as he fetches eight strike-outs on Wednesday. With this, his credentials for being announced for All-Star Game has strengthened.
He pitched six innings and gave up two runs, including a home-run.
In-spite of boasting an incredible 8-1 win-loss record in the season, he has yet to throw maximum number of innings in one game. More often than not, he throws six innings before being scratched, leaving the task to the relievers.
Though, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson is cautious and has put pitch-limit on him, unless he can produce shut-out games, he cannot justify the notion of being an ace.
Returning after recovering from an injury, relief pitcher Brad Lidge came as a closer for Nationals. Giving no signs of being depleted by the after-shocks of injury, he finished a scoreless ninth.
Washington has started seeing their bullpen being filled with quality hurlers after it got empty, with flurry of injuries hitting the team. With Drew Storen, the injured relief pitcher, rehabilitating quickly and Ross Detwiler assuming the relief pitcher
role, the Nationals’ bullpen is gaining strength.
Winning three games against the Blue Jays proves their mettle, but it cannot hide certain issue with their offence. While it has improved immensely in the last couple of games, consistency remains a problem.
Working it out and addressing bugs and flaws in other areas is something Johnson will be working with in the days to come.
