Washington Nationals crush Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 in series finale – MLB Update
Washington Nationals continued their sensational winning streak as they beat Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, June 13 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Showing great composure and mental strength, the Nationals completed an emphatic series sweep over the Blue Jays to improve their record to 38-23. Toronto, on the other hand, had no answers to dipping curveballs from Nationals’ starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
Strasburg showed high quality throwing abilities to earn his fifth straight win this season. Allowing just two runs in six solid innings, the right hander improved his 2012 record to 8-1. It will be interesting to see if he can produce similar performances
on his next appearance.
"It was nothing major," Strasburg said. "I definitely don't think it affected the way the ball was coming out or anything. I wanted to go out there again."
"Once I started to get my curveball over for a strike it really changed the ball game," Strasburg said.
"I threw the ball and felt a popping sensation in the back of my elbow," said Drabek, who was taken off in the fifth. "I don't know how fast it was but the velocity was down so just for a precaution it was probably smart to take me out."
Nationals’ first baseman Tyler Moore had an outstanding time on the plate as he hit a ground rule double to centre in the second to put his side 2-0 ahead.
John Farrell and company put up a brilliant fight to level score at 2-2 in the third inning. Second baseman Brett Lawrie grounded out to shortstop and Jose Bautista homered to left as the momentum shifted towards the Blue Jays.
Credit must be given to Moore, who single handedly led his side to victory. Improving his 2012 batting average to .290, he homered twice in the fourth and the sixth inning to help Washington Nationals take complete control of the situation, leading the score
5-2.
Ian Desmond also made the most of scoring opportunities, hitting a 422 feet home run to left in the eighth inning.
