Washington Nationals defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 – MLB Recap
The Washington Nationals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter of 2012 Major League Baseball season on Wednesday night at Nationals Park, Washington, DC to level the series 1-1.
Centre-fielder Bryce Harper was pick-of-the-day when he helped the Nationals cruise past the well settled Diamondbacks in style.
The Nationals were trailing 4-3 in the sixth inning and it looked like they had gotten the upper hand in the game, but the final innings proved to be the difference. Bryce Harper’s double gave advantage to short-stop Ian Desmond to complete a two-run homer
which gave Washington a well deserved victory over the visiting Diamondbacks.
After the game, both team managers gave answers to several media personals giving them their respective views.
"He was born for these situations. We needed it, No doubt about it." Washington manager Davey Johnson said of Harper and for his team.
Harper, who was certainly happy on his contribution which proved helpful for the Nationals’, also spoke to the media and said, "I was wondering if anybody saw that, It went underneath my glove, and I caught it with my bare hand on the back side of it. I was
trying to make something happen at the plate, go in hard and try to make something happen,"
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson on the other hand was disappointed on his team’s effort. He accepted the defeat, but he also accepted the way his team is playing this Major League season and in the near future they will turn these kinds of close games into
wins. Gibson said, "It won't be the last time it happens to us this year. We're playing good baseball. We just have to shake this one off and come back tomorrow."
In the meanwhile, with this win, the Nationals are enjoying the top spot in National League East. They have won 15 and lost 9 games with the percentage of .625.
On the other hand, the loss has given the Diamondbacks a little shocker as they still trailing behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West with 13-12 win-loss record.
