Washington Nationals defeat St. Louis Cardinals 8-6 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ batters had a notable day as they put runs on the score-board especially the six-run seventh inning resulted in the Nationals’ 8-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Nationals Park, Washington on June 14.
It was the first win for the Nationals in a three-game series against the Cardinals.
During the first inning of the game, the Cardinals posted two runs to take an initial 2-0 lead. Albert Pujols struck a solo homer (394 feet) towards left-field and Ryan Theriot scored a single run. In the second and third inning, the batters were unable
to post any run on the score-board as the pitchers continued to throw the ball in perfect line.
Both teams added one run in the fourth inning. Lance Berkman hit a one-run homer (373 feet) towards right-field to extend the Cardinals’ lead. On the other side, the Nationals opened their scoring account and reduced their lead 3-1 when Roger Bernadina singled
to centre-field and Michael Morse posted one run.
The Cardinals’ batters exploded three runs in the fifth inning to get a 6-1 lead. Ryan Theriot, Colby Rasmus and Berkman each contributed three runs collectively. Andrew Brown moved to second base on a wide throw.
In the sixth inning, Bernadina hit a grounder into double play and Morse added one run to lift the potential of the Nationals. However, the Cardinals were leading 6-2 at the end of sixth inning.
Seventh inning went in favour of the Nationals as they blasted six runs and went ahead 8-6. Jayson Werth, Ian Desmond, Ryan Zimmerman, Danny Espinosa, Wilson Ramos and Bernadina each singled towards various field gaps and kept the Nationals alive. Eighth
and ninth inning went score-less for both sides.
