Washington Nationals ease past the Miami Marlins 5-2 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on July 14 at Marlins Park in Miami.
The Nationals played wonderfully throughout the game and won with style. They showed great temperament on the plate as well as on the mound.
“I just said, 'Hey, I'm going to try end this first half on a good note, I couldn't play any worse than I have this first half. I just wanted to out feeling good. I didn't want to go home feeling in more of a stale mood than I'm already in,” Span said after
the game.
Especially Nationals’ batters played intelligently and won the game with great force. They never allowed any big loop holes and kept the Marlins under pressure throughout the game.
“I like this ballclub, We've had few hiccups with injuries and whatever, but I think we're in good shape going into the second half. We're an awfully good ballclub, we just need to play like it, We hit bunch of balls hard, and I like the way it felt,” Washington
Nationals manager Davey Johnson said.
Left fielder Bryce Harper scored one run on one hit. He played well on his five at bats and put his team in control. Harper remained consistent on the plate as he also managed to maintain his slugging percentage of .522.
First baseman Adam LaRoche also showed his great batting skills and helped the Nationals’ win an important game of the series.
He scored one run on one hit and played well on his four at bats. He hit hard and managed to maintain his slugging percentage of .425.
Centre fielder Denard Span scored one run on three hits. He ran for two RBIs and played well on his five at bats.
Along with batters, the Nationals’ pitchers also performed wonderfully and helped their team win against the Marlins with big margin.
Starting pitcher Taylor Jordan pitched six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits. He allowed two earned runs and one homer. He struck out four Marlins batters and managed to maintain his consistent ERA of 3.32.
