Washington Nationals edge past Boston Red Sox 4-2 – MLB Recap
The Washington Nationals edge past the Boston Red Sox 4-2 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, June 9 at Fenway Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Daisuke Matsuzaka was hammered for four runs and ruined the game for the Red Sox. He was also hit for five hits along with a homer. His 7.20 of ERA went weary as he could not maintain the momentum he was carrying from start of the season.
"We're talking about two guys that are such talented guys, they have great stuff," "It's hard to adjust. They throw hard and they have good breaking-ball pitches. You've got to be a good hitter, just to go out there and look for a good pitch to drive. Stras
and Gio are pretty much wearing them down when they're in a good spot." said Nationals catcher Jesus Flores on his team’s tremendous effort which literally rattled the Red Sox offence and won the game in style.
Later manager Davey Johnson also said for his team’s great win, "It's no picnic facing Zimmermann or any of our starters, That's been our strength all year, holding the opposition down."
The Nationals played well from start of the game and put the Red Sox’s under pressure. The entire Nationals roster was looking in good shape as they entered the game with full confidence.
Washington starter Gio Gonzalez played well and maintained his 2.35 ERA with great energy. He pitched 6.1 innings and proved valuable for his team. He also struck out five batters and stood tall against the opposing batters.
On the other hand, this win has also given the Nationals’ series triumph over the Red Sox who are currently suffering one of their worst forms in recent times.
Red Sox, with 29-30 win-loss record and poor .492 winning percentage, are sitting at bottom in the American League East Division.
Recent defeats have now made things more difficult for the Red Sox to qualify for the post season but if they wanted to go further to play the playoffs; they have to change their current defensive strategy for sure.
