Washington Nationals end Chien-Ming Wang‘s disabled list stint on Tuesday - MLB Update
Finally Chien-Ming Wang gets rid of the disabled list and is ready to play in the season. After sustaining left hamstring injury in Spring Training, Wang was put on a lengthy disabled list.
As a replacement, Ross Detwiler was called up in the season.
Wang played for the New York Yankees at the start of his career. Ever since Wang has joined the Nationals, injuries have been part and parcel of his time in the club.
He has a tremendous career record. Before the start of 2012 regular season, he was considered one of the most reliable pitchers with the Nationals. Along with Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez, he had to play major role as starter.
The fact he had 59-29 career win-loss record, his injury was taken as a huge setback for the Nationals.
However as the season started without him, replacement the Nationals put up turned out fairly reasonable. Detwiler, who started in his place, has been great on the mound. At some point in time, he was so perfect on the mound that fans can term Wang’s injury
as blessing in disguise.
The Nationals have been prudent in giving Wang proper time for recovery. Couple of weeks ago, he was fit, but the manager Davey Johnson sent him for rehab games in order to make sure once he returns to the season, only his best materialises.
As he is now available, he will not be in rotation at the exclusion of Detwiler. Instead Ryan Mattheus has been placed on 15-day DL and Wang will be filling his spot.
As a result, the Nationals have strengthened their rotation further. This will reinforce notion of a lopsided roster with the Nationals. Lop-sided in a sense that depth they enjoy as regard to pitching options is ample, while they suffer paucity of quality
batters.
When Wang will appear in his first outing of the season is not yet known. Announcement will be made soon in this respect.
By the time he assumes the mound, he will have a point to prove.
Almost two months have elapsed and great performances have been put up by rest of the pitchers. Therefore, to stand out and assert his significance to the club, he will be looking to unleash his best at the earliest.
