Washington Nationals eye De La Rosa for pitching injection
The off season in Major League Baseball represents a time period for ball clubs to focus more on grooming players, trading stars and adjusting organizational activity.
The free agents in the market are growing by the day and with more than 160 players on the radar, 30 teams in the American and National Leagues, combined, are fighting for the big fish in the pond. The number of top agents is increasing with waivers being
signed off. It looks like all the top clubs have the opportunity to plug their weak areas.
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are particularly active this year and it seems the top brass will head over to their sides. However, there are other stars in the market and for many they are the unsung heroes of tomorrow. It has to be seen how
the off season concludes and with so many players in the free agents’ zone, it seems the market will be buzzing with activity over the next few days.
The Washington Nationals were one of the low end teams to come out of the National League in 2010 and with a bad start they will hope the next year will change their fortunes. The side that ranked last in the East Division last season seems to be interested
in De La Rosa, these days.
The player is currently in the market and his tenure with the Colorado Rockies showed a good number of displays over the period. He won 8 games and lost 7 in 20 starts for the side. In addition, he struck out 113 hitters and allowed just 3 runs in his last
13 of 14 starts.
General Manager Mike Rizzo recently commented on the player and Cliff Lee in a fashion show by saying, “We have to take each case individually. We are going to be very realistic on our chances to sign Cliff Lee. We are going to speak to him and his representative
and see where it takes us. We are certainly not going to put our eggs with the Lee basket because we are going to be one of many people trying to acquire his services. But we have other irons in the fire. We have a lot of other decisions to make and a lot
of other people to talk to. We are going to make a prudent baseball move via free agency or trade. But we are certainly not going to make a move (just to make a move)”.
