Washington Nationals hammer San Diego Padres 8-5 – MLB news
Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres 8-5 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on July 05 at Nationals Park in Washington.
The Nationals played wonderfully and won with great style. They kept the Padres under pressure throughout the game and ease past with quite ease.
“I like the way the lineup is swinging the bat really. They're good at-bats, quality at-bats,” Johnson said. “That's what I've been looking for. It takes the pressure off everybody in the lineup. They feel like they can stay within themselves and not try
to do too much.”
Nationals’ batters and pitchers showed great temperament during the entire game and defeated the Padres with good margin.
“He expects a lot of himself and I think coming back from that long layoff he's just not as relaxed as he likes,” Johnson said. “He's probably not at 100 percent physically either. It's a good time (to rest him) before we go on the road trip.”
Shortstop Ian Desmond started well on the plate as he scored one run on one hit. He played well on his four at bats as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .506.
First baseman Adam LaRoche also played well on his three at bats. He scored one run on one hit. He ran for one RBI and maintained his slugging percentage at .436.
Right fielder Jayson Werth scored one run. He batted four times and smashed three hits. He ran for single RBI and showed great resistance by maintaining .443 slugging percentage.
Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos also showed his great batting skills. He scored one run on two hits. He played well on his four at bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage at .518.
Along with batters, the Nationals pitchers also played well on the mound and helped their team win an important game of the series.
They pitched in right areas and won with great ease with a good margin. Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He also allowed three earned runs along with one homer. He struck out five while he remained consistent
on his 3.14 ERA.
