Washington Nationals hold talks with Los Angeles Angels over Peter Bourjos trade – MLB News
As per Major-League source, discussions are underway between Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels regarding the trade of Peter Bourjos. Centre fielder Bourjos has been under the considerations of the Nationals’ General Manager, Mike Rizzo and was
being pursued in the last couple of months.
Recently the Nationals suffered losses and one of the reasons was injuries of their hitters.
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had shoulder inflammation. Although he has come back, it is not sure how long he can sustain further in the season.
Therefore, it is just natural that the club will search replacements in middle part of their line-up.
The fact, first baseman Michael Morse is out of season and is not likely to return in weeks has intensified the need for having a hitter.
There are no official statements made about the trade by either parties and therefore it will take some time before its modalities are known.
Reports suggest that, other than Nationals, teams like Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays are also interested in getting Bourjos through trade.
Angels’ roster is crowded with centre fielders, and therefore they are looking for suitable swap in order to balance out expertise.
Bourjos is hitting .191, with one home-run and nine RBIs.
While this suggests a decline in his overall career performance, the Nationals aim to draw major contribution from him. Given the reasons that are motivating them for the trade, they will like him to come late in the innings and lift the charge.
Although Bryce Harper has shown credentials to support the Nationals’ offence for a long time now, serious planning is underway about making sure that every single loophole is addressed before crucial games unfold in the season.
In this respect, even if Bourjos is not brought into the line-up right away after the trade late in the season, he may become regular partner of the Nationals’ line-up.
It is too early to make any judgment about the Nationals’ prospects in the season, if they can plug weak-areas in their offence they certainly have a chance to go big this year.
How far they can be successful in this regard will determine their fate ahead in the games.
