Washington Nationals humiliate Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 as Edwin Jackson throws seven innings - MLB
The starter Edwin Jackson finishes an incredible spell of seven innings as the Washington Nationals comprehensively beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 on July 26, 2012 at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the first game of the four match series.
Nationals are taking whatever team they are facing with iron hands. Earlier they swept the New York Mets.
Just when they have started the next series now, they have not looked different to how they were performing before.
Throughout the game, they did not allow Brewers to manage a lead. Putting them under pressure right away, Nationals posted four runs in the second inning. Before Brewers could fight back and initiate the chase for bridging the deficit, the Nationals slammed
three more runs in the fifth.
In the last few series, the Nationals’ offence has taken on a new shape. Ever since their third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse have joined the line-up, the rate of hits per game has gone up dramatically.
Earlier the opponents had to face their solid hurlers, but now the onslaught that the Nationals’ batters are launching in every game has made it even tougher for the teams to win against them.
On Thursday, Washington saw Morse, Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche making the bulk of the contribution offensively.
Zimmerman faced four at-bats and connected one hit. LaRoche drove in two runs on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson expresses his pleasure over finding most of the players stepping up and making contributions. In almost every department of the play, his players are close to perfection.
"We haven't done nothing." Johnson said. "We're playing good ball. We're playing good on the road. Pitching staff has been great, offense has been good, defense outstanding. That's how you win ballgames."
Jackson was impressive as a starter. He threw seven scoreless innings, while striking-out four.
"I made a couple of pitches when I needed to and had some defensive plays when I needed them," he said. "It was just a combination of both."
With every series, the Nationals are heading toward becoming invincible. Their players are growing better after every game.
The pace with which they are progressing right now, one can believe that they will be one of the contenders for the World Series Championship.
