Washington Nationals humiliate St. Louis Cardinals 10-0 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals displayed an outstanding team effort as the batters put runs on the score-board and the pitchers threw in perfect line to give the Nationals a 10-0 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals at Nationals Park, Washington on June 15.
In the first inning, the batters were unable to take runs and their score-cards remained empty. The Nationals took a 1-0 lead during the second inning when Michael Morse struck a one-run homer (385 feet) to left-field. In the third inning, the Nationals
got a 2-0 lead when Ryan Zimmerman singled to centre-field and Jayson Werth posted one run.
The Nationals’ batters further extended their lead 5-0 by exploding three runs in the fourth inning. Morse added one run on the drive of Ivan Rodriguez towards right-field. Danny Espinosa posted the second run of the inning when Ian Desmond occupied first
base on the throwing error of the Cardinals’ third baseman Albert Pujols.
Rodriguez contributed the third run of the fourth inning when Roger Bernadina doubled to left-field. No score was posted by any batter during the fifth inning as the pitchers threw the ball in perfect line. The Nationals’ starter, Livan Hernandez had a notable
day as he pitched shut-out innings with an ERA of 3.77 and permitted only three hits with six strike-outs. He did give up a walk in his 105 pitches.
The Nationals’ manager, Jim Riggleman was content with the way Hernandez pitched throughout the game. He said, “It was just a great performance. It was just vintage Livo there. He was hitting his spots, changing his speeds -- he just really had it all going.
He was completely in control tonight.”
Sixth inning again went in favour of the Nationals’ batters as they took one run to get a 6-0 lead. Rodriguez scored a single run when Desmond singled to centre-field at the bottom of the sixth inning. The Nationals led off 9-0 in the seventh inning when
Laynce Nix scored one run while Morse homered (445 feet) towards left centre-field and Espinosa struck a one-run homer (419 feet) to right-field.
During the eighth inning, Werth homered (395 feet) to centre-field and the Nationals took a 10-0 lead. The pitchers were on top in the ninth inning and it passed score-less.
