Washington Nationals humiliated by Colorado Rockies 2-4 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies continued their offensive run as they defeated the Washington Nationals 4-2 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 25 at Coors Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Nationals were coming with a poor record of losing back-to-back games against the Baltimore Orioles. However, in this particular matchup with the Rockies, Washington still could not open up their new defensive approach and lost in the end.
Rockies came to play on their home field with a much more offensive approach. They not only played brilliantly, but they also played as one unit. Taking the game away in style, the Rockies never tried anything which could have given them trouble as instead
they kept the Nationals under pressure and won the game with ease.
Jeff Francis played a key role in the Rockies win. He stood tall against the Nationals’ batting prowess and never gave too many runs in his five innings’ spell.
He gave only two runs on five hits and two earned runs as his ERA rose to 7.23.
Stephen Strasburg on the other hand, could not save the game for his team. The Nationals’ starter also could not maintain his six game win streak with bitter humiliation.
He finished his six innings’ spell receiving six hits and three runs while his ERA rose to 2.60.
"I went out there and pounded the strike zone, It seemed they were just hitting it right beyond our gloves, basically. It's baseball and they did a good job of battling up there. They were just trying to take what was given to them and regardless of how
bad it looked, they got some hits.” Strasburg said in detail.
He added, “It's part of baseball and you try and get in and obviously, you never want to hit a guy in the head, You think about it for a second, hope that he's OK. But once I saw him walk off I figured he'd be OK."
The Nationals have always relied on Strasburg for a good outing, but now things are changing at a rapid pace and if Washington Nationals’ want to qualify for the post season they will be looking to match the pace with other teams as well. The Rockies will
be looking to carry some of their winning momentum forward and build up some much needed confidence in the squad.
