Washington Nationals leave baseball Winter Meetings as Adam LaRoche awaits decision - MLB Update
Washington Nationals are done with their work at the baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville as their officials go back home. What is worrisome for Adam LaRoche is that he has yet to see the club making any decision about him.
LaRoche is in the free agent market at the moment. Buyers for the first basemen are leaving, which means LaRoche is not getting any of the clubs to accept what he wants to have in his new contract.
Due to his age, the interested organisations are reluctant to grant him a three-year contract.
However, he believes he is worth it. Winner of the Silver Slugger Award during the 2012 season, he thinks he can continue showing incredible performances in the upcoming years.
The Nationals are engaged in talks with him over the last few weeks. Yet, the agreement has not been reached by them.
It is because of the inflexible attitude by both the parties. Despite the fact they want to ink the deal, they are unwilling to renounce their demands.
Currently, the situation is shifting in favour of the Nationals.
With LaRoche concerned about being signed for three-years by any organisation, he is about to bring down his expectations.
That is going to benefit Washington as they can sign him at their own terms and conditions.
Earlier LaRoche unveiled what he is looking for while negotiating with the club. He explained he just wants a three-year deal as he gave reasons why he deserves this.
“To be honest, it’s a years thing now,” LaRoche said. “I think they’re really wanting to stick to two years. I’m trying to talk them into lengthening that. To be honest, probably just one year. I’m not looking for four or five. I understand I’m 33 years
old.  I can’t say it moved forward. We understand each other a lot more now. I think he understands where I’m coming from. He understands I want to be there, kind of my argument for three years not being unreasonable. So, I don’t know.”
His concerns will mount as the Nationals wind up the Winter Meetings without declaring anything about him.
The next couple of days are important. Either the Nationals will make another attempt at hiring him or he will be left alone in the market waiting to get picked up by some other team.
