Washington Nationals lose to Atlanta Braves 4-5 – MLB Recap
Washington Nationals lost to Atlanta Braves 4-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 15 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
Nationals’ did not play aggressive enough and lost in the end. They struggled from the start of the game and could not face the Braves’ hammering especially during the later stages of the match.
On the other hand, the Braves' batters and pitchers played beautifully to earn a great victory for their team.
"At this point of the year, it's a playoff atmosphere and you've got to find ways to win, Any way you can do it, whether it's ugly, pretty or what have you. It's just huge to win two games after losing three in a row. You don't want teams to gain ground behind you and you want to gain ground on this team in front of you," Jason Heyward said.
Later, Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez commented on his team’s performance and explained some different aspects of the game as he said, “It seems like we win some ballgames some crazy ways, but we'll take it, Sometimes you lose games some crazy ways also."
Starter Tommy Hanson started the game for the Braves and pitched with great energy. He did not allow any extra loop-holes which eventually provided them a decent and well fought win.
Hanson pitched five solid innings and received four runs and five hits. He struck-out seven and received only one homer on his consistent 4.33 ERA.
Relief pitcher Jonny Venters also supported his team well as he contributed with 1.2 innings on which he allowed just one hit. Not receiving any run on his 3.59 ERA, Venters also struck-out two Nationals’ batters.
Nationals’ pitchers however, did not show an offensive game and lost in the end.
Edwin Jackson pitched 5.1 innings and received four runs and four hits. He struck-out seven but allowed two crucial home-runs on his 3.89 ERA which eventually resulted in a humiliating defeat.
Closer Ryan Mattheus also played poorly as he allowed one run and one hit on his 0.1 innings spell.
