Washington Nationals lose to New York Mets 0-11 – MLB Recap
Washington Nationals defeated by the New York Mets 0-11 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on July 26 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
"I haven't seen him obviously that good in a long time, The command of his stuff was very, very good. His location. I thought he pitched an outstanding game. His best changeup. I didn't know he had one. He used it and used it effectively. He pitched a great game," manager Terry Collins said.
The Mets showed great control during the entire game and won with style. They played well and hammered the Nationals with great force.
"Certainly it's easy to fall back in the pack, He was the rage in 2010. Everybody thought this guy's, the sky's the limit. And then the injuries have set him way back,” Collins said of Mejia, whom he said will remain with the Mets when they make a roster move after the doubleheader.
Their batters and pitchers played wonderfully and never allowed any big loop holes. Especially Mets’ hitters were outstanding in the field. They hit hard against the Nationals’ entire pitching lineup and won an important game of their team.
Centre fielder Juan Lagares played well early in the innings and showed his great batting skills. He played very well on his four at bats and scored three runs on three hits. He ran for one RBI and remained calm on his consistent .411 slugging percentage.
Second baseman David Murphy also played well and showed great temperament on his five at bats. He scored three runs on four hits while he ran for five RBIs on his persistent slugging percentage of .421.
Third baseman David Wright scored one run on two hits. He played well on his five at bats while he maintained his slugging percentage of .512.
Along with batters, the Mets pitchers also played wonderfully and won an important game of the series.
Jenrry Mejia started the game for the Mets. He pitched seven solid innings and allowed only seven hits. He struck out seven Nationals’ hitters and remained calm on the mound during his entire spell.
