Washington Nationals maintain humble stance, land Mark DeRosa – MLB Update
The Washington Nationals are striving hard to maintain their reputation in the National League East division and are thus willing to go the extra mile in a bid to achieve the same. This past season, after showing a lacklustre performance in the first half,
the Nationals improved their consistency in the second half to make a strong finish to what was a roller-coaster ride.
During the offseason, the Nationals vowed not to make radical changes to the bull-pen and have thus far lived to their word. Nevertheless, a few adjustments are justified in the context of adding strength to the bull-pen. Manager Davey Johnson had expressed
his desire of making minor adjustments to the roster before the advent of next season and he has full support of management in this regard.
On the verge of this past season, Johnson asserted that the team is highly talented and the only thing that needs to be worked upon is team chemistry. Here, he has managed to keep almost all players onboard in addition to attracting a few utility players
to the franchise in a bid to compete with the likes of Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
The latest addition on the roster was of Mark DeRosa, who has been out of action for a major part of the last two seasons citing wrist injury. Nevertheless, he is back on track to make a solid return to Major League Baseball and help the Nationals fight
for a postseason berth.
DeRosa has the ability to play in-field as well as out-field in addition to hammering massive home-runs from the plate. If he stays fit during the course of the regular season, at least, the Nationals are surely in with a chance to compete with top teams
in Major League Baseball.
The Nationals sport a strong defensive pack, but offence is one area where the team needed some radical changes and DeRosa’s addition is surely a first step in that direction. A strong close to the 2011 season has instilled confidence in the team and it
will be interesting to see how the team projects this in the on-field performance.
