Washington Nationals open to talk to Jordan Zimmermann – MLB Update
The Washington Nationals management is ready to talk to starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann on contract extension. Along with Zimmermann, shortstop Ian Desmond also might get a new deal.
In the recent past season, he played well and achieved good numbers of 2.94 ERA along with 12-8 win-loss, 153 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP.
Overall he is carrying a good career ERA of 3.47 along with 24-26 win loss, 396 strikeouts and 1.21 WHIP. His potential extension will certainly benefit the Nationals in the next Major League Baseball season.
"We don't discuss negotiations, but if it makes sense for both parties, we're open on both guys," Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo.
“Only if it makes sense for us, We've got five terrific starters in the big leagues, we've got guys in the Minor Leagues for insurance and we've got prospects coming, so we're certainly in no need for another starter," Rizzo said of adding to his rotation competition.
Zimmermann also said Saturday, with both he and general manager Mike Rizzo reiterating their desire to reach an agreement without going to a hearing, "We're kind of hung up right now, We'll see what happens, but we definitely want to get this deal done and move on."
Ian Desmond is also an experienced campaigner and knows his game well. Last season he was also exceptional in the field as he did a good job hitting some 25 home runs and 73 RBIs. His career hitting average is also consistent at .271 along with 47 home runs, 199 RBIs and .313 OBP.
The Nationals these two potential players certainly have some great talent. If the potential extension happens, the Nationals offence will certainly give other teams hard time in their field.
Danny Espinosa and Adam LaRoche are two other players whom the Nationals will rely in the next season. Both played well in the last season and now seeking a more challenging season next year.
Espinosa finished the season on high note and went with .271 hitting average along with 33 home runs, 100 RBIs and .343 OBP while his career hitting average of .268, 197 home runs, 684 RBIs and .338 OBP also makes him a good role player in the league.
