Washington Nationals outclass Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 as Jordan Zimmermann shines on the mound-MLB
Starter Jordan Zimmermann strikes-out six for the Washington Nationals as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 in the third game of the four match series at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 28, 2012.
Pitchers-led dominance by the Nationals continues as another day sees their starter throwing an incredible spell of six innings, in which he gave up just one run.
With the kind of performance both the starters and their relievers are putting up, even a minor contribution from the offence is leading them to victories.
Tyler Clippard, who came to carry out the closing job for the Nationals, was improved from his last few outings. While he kept Brewers from fighting their way back into the game in the last inning, he recorded his 19th save of the season on Saturday.
Offensively, the Nationals relied entirely on homers for scoring runs. Three of their batters struck a home-run in the game.
Centre fielder, Corey Brown faced five at-bats and struck one hit, which was his home-run. Similarly, left fielder Tyler Moore had two hits on the plate in four at-bats.
Their third baseman Zimmerman, who also hammered a home-run on Saturday, keeps his top-notch form in the season afloat. The consistency with which he is hitting in the last few weeks, he is going to be hard to stop for the opponents in the upcoming games.
Meanwhile, the pitcher Zimmermann is ecstatic after becoming winner in the game. The fact his family was present in the stadium has multiplied his happiness. For him, losing in front of his family was to be the most unwanted reality in the encounter.
"It was definitely awesome," said Zimmermann. "A dream come true to pitch in front of my family and friends, and everyone who came out to watch. I'm just glad I gave them a good showing. I didn't want to go out there and have a terrible outing. I thought
I threw the ball well and got some quick outs. They've got a pretty good lineup and I was able to do pretty well."
The Nationals now will be looking forward to winning the last game of the series before heading toward the next assignment.
