Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper shows confidence ahead 2012 season
The Washington Nationals' young outfielder Bryce Harper is getting ready to make a potential start in the 2012 Opening Day roster. He looks quite confident that the next season will be bringing some huge set of opportunities for him as he also knows the entire Nationals' management is supporting him to join the big league team.
"I feel really positive about going to Spring Training this year," Harper said, "I really feel I have a legit shot at making the club. We have a lot of guys coming in -- veteran guys that could really teach me how to approach the game. ... I'm really excited for this year."
"I've been working my butt off this offseason, getting ready to go out there and doing outfield stuff, working on running and jumping -- everything that consists of trying to make this team. To have Davey on my side, that a very big plus going in there."
Harper is a good player and done well in the recent Minor League competitions. Generally, every MLB franchise prefers a well established experienced player for their big league team, but the level of performance Harper has showed in recent times, the Nationals' management looks fairly impressed and are now looking at ways to give him a chance to play in the Major League.
Recently, Harper was also somewhat given a surety by the team manager Davey Johnson and general manager Mike Rizzo that he might play in the 2012 season. Both have stated in the media earlier that entire team is in a restoration phase and knows where Harper should be securing the role playing position.
On the other hand, looking at Harper’s confidence on playing in the next season as potential outfielder is rather pleasing. Some say, Harper has realised that his performance in the Nationals' fall instructional and Arizona Fall League, is enough for the team management to decide whether he is good enough for the Major League regular season. According to experts, the next few weeks will be critical when the Nationals' management has to decide on Harper’s fate entering in the Major League.
