Washington Nationals position on pitcher Gio Gonzalez in a blur -MLB Update
There has not been a confirmed official source that has announced that the Washington Nationals are pursuing pitcher, Gio Gonzalez, with full force but there are a number of rumours floating around Major League Baseball (MLB) that the team is going after
him, than there are others denying that all together.
According to the rumour, the Nationals are working with the Oakland Athletics through the negotiation process if they were willing to trade their player, Gio Gonzalez, which was expressed by a source close to the team.
Other officials on the other hand deny the fact that such a deal is going on or being pursued at all in terms of bringing up the idea in the board room.
Many believe that Washington could use a player like Gonzalez to add the much needed pitching depth on their roster but at the same time, many are of the view that the Nationals are not willing to give up any of their top prospects, which would certainly
be on the radar of the Oakland Athletics if they were to initiate any such trade for the player.
“Nothing serious,” the source said.
Washington is known to have desired a left hand player that would suite their young right hand players that are starters for the team, Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann.
The Nationals were also believed to be the second place team behind the Miami Marlins who signed on left hand player, Mark Buehrle, a free-agent who was picked up earlier this offseason to a major four-year contract worth $58 million, after which Washington
has not been able to find any other suite except now in the form of Gio Gonzalez.
If the Washington Nationals are in fact in the race to acquire the player through means of trading, it will obviously require compromise from their side as well and we could see top prospect be involved in the process as well if something is announced on
the situation in the upcoming days or not.
Developments on the issue and much more are expected in the upcoming days which could include the signing of Gio Gonzalez.
