Washington Nationals’ post-season per uniformed player reward amounts to $37,000 - MLB Update
Bonus for players and coaches of Washington Nationals for playing in the post-season this year is $37,000. For a team that rarely qualifies for the playoffs, this must be a great achievement.
Although the amount distributed as per member share is insignificant, it can go a long way in boosting the morale of the players.
The Nationals were tremendous throughout 2012 regular season. Based on their dominant shows until the start of the post-season, it could be easily expected that they will achieve something substantial this year.
Unfortunately, they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals in unlucky fashion in Game 5 of National League Division Series.
Their players, despite being competent could not absorb pressure of high profile games.
Starter Gio Gonzalez, who was supposed to spearhead their pitching staff, struggled in important games. In contrast to his immaculate shows during regular season, he leaked runs and allowed walks.
Win in Game 5 of NLDS will have ensured a higher amount of money per player. As Cardinals’ share is $160,000, the same sum will probably have been allocated for Washington if they had gone deep in the post-season.
The Nationals will look to build on their experience this year and make sure they qualify once again for the playoffs in the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
Preparations during the on-going offseason can play a key role in this regard. Areas where they lacked options during 2012 season can be addressed and proper adjustments can be made so that mistakes are not repeated next year.
For example, Washington requires strong arms for the bullpen. Along with filling the vacant spot of a starter in the rotation, a couple of new relief pitchers can strengthen their pitching staff to a great extent. That will render them in an ideal position
to defend the Division title in the upcoming season and clinch glory in the playoffs.
A much needed post-season experience by most of their players which has been gained now will help their cause immensely during 2013. They can go in the field more confident and willing to take risks, putting challenges before oppositions.
If everything goes right for Washington, they have an ideal opportunity to attain something enviable in the season ahead.
