Washington Nationals put Brad Lidge on the disabled list after abdominal strain - MLB Update
An abdominal strain worsened for Brad Lidge, landing him on the disabled list. Ryan Perry from Class AAA Syracuse now has been called up as a replacement in the season. Lidge has been feeling bad in his abdomen since the beginning of the season, only it
had not aggravated to a level that he will give in.
Lidge had to be extremely useful as the season was to progress as per the manager Davey Johnson, despite the fact he had a poor outing against the Miami Marlins. Along with Henry Rodriguez, he was a valuable option in the bullpen.
After an injury of Drew Storen, the manager Davey Johnson had to wisely utilise limited options he was left with in bullpen. With Lidge also out now, Rodriguez will shoulder the bulk of the burden.
Johnson has stated that he will employ Rodriguez more often in the ninth now.
It is not yet clear how long Lidge can remain out. Nothing can be said with certainty until he meets with the specialist in Philadelphia. His penchant to play was evident from the gross frustration he expressed after reporting an injury.
“I’m pretty frustrated right now,” Lidge said. “You want to be out there for your teammates, the whole year.”
Calling the pain an unprecedented one, he was unsure for how long he will take to return.
“I haven’t had anything like this before, so I’m concerned about that,” Lidge said. “I don’t think, with these types of things, the worst case will be a long, long time. I’m hoping for the best case. We just have to know a little bit more.”
Like any other team in the National League East Division, the Nationals are suffering with injuries of their premier players. Michael Morse and Ryan Zimmerman are out indefinitely. Now with Lidge injured, the manager confronts a hard time ahead in getting
right replacements.
Currently the Nationals top their Division and with the Atlanta Braves inching closer to their tally of wins, next games will impose an uncanny kind of pressure on them. With bullpen trimming down, Johnson’s expertise as a manager is going to be tested thoroughly.
