Washington Nationals put shortstop Ian Desmond on 15-day disabled list - MLB Update
Lingering with a problem to his oblique earlier, the Washington Nationals’ shortstop Ian Desmond has been placed on a 15-day disabled list now. On Sunday, the manager Davey Johnson made the announcement, stating that he has been feeling uncomfortable in
the last few games and therefore is unable to show his best on the plate.
While Desmond has been playing despite having the knowledge that his injury is severe, it is the revelation of tear in oblique through MRI report that has compelled the team officials to decide about his DL status now.
Desmond is one of the few players with the Nationals who have performed consistently both at the plate and in the field this year.
At start of the season when the Nationals’ offence struggled to get going, he remained the standout performer.
When on one side Michael Morse was injured and on the other Jayson Werth had been announced out from the season for a long time due to a wrist fracture, Desmond did not shy away to compensate for weaker areas in the offence with timely home-runs and productive
hits.
The Nationals can be pleased with the fact that if one of their players has been lost to an injury, they have the out-fielder Werth playing rehab games and all set to come back in the season.
Furthermore, with an entry by Werth, the Nationals’ line-up will see an addition of a player who can slam mammoth home-runs and contribute immensely with regard to the offence.
In light of this, one can say that the Nationals will be able to eschew the bigger damage that can arise due to an absence by Desmond.
In the meantime, Desmond has explained how his injury turned severe form being a mild one at the start.
"At the very beginning, it felt like this, and then it loosened up a little bit and I was able to play through it until the All-Star break and went home and rested and felt great in the first initial batting practice back," Desmond said. "Then it kind of
came back a little bit and I was waiting for it to go away like it did the first time. It just stayed."
Desmond will be trying his best to get rid of the injury as soon as possible and start playing for the Nationals again.
