Washington Nationals rattle San Francisco Giants, 3-0: MLB Update
The Washington Nationals’ starter, Jason Marquis, had an outstanding day with the ball, as the hurler pitched nine shutout innings in the Club’s 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants
at the Nationals Park on Friday April 29 to take 1-0 lead in the four-game series.
The Nationals’ manager, Jim Riggleman, seemed pleased with the Marquis contribution with the ball. Riggleman said. "He was really good. He just made the game feel really comfortable for everyone
in our dugout. He was extremely sharp. He had everything working. Pitching controls the game, and he was in complete control tonight."
Marquis tossed impressive nine innings, allowed just five scoreless hits without giving any walk and took out seven batters. The 32-year-old right-hander now has 3-0 record with 2.62 ERA
this season that also made him 5-3 against the Giants. Marquis also helped his own battle with a runs-batted-in single and now is batting at .385.
Marquis said he has become more consistent than before and learning day by day and with every new start. He further added about his own performance.  "I was keeping them off-balance, pushing
and pulling the string with my fastball and off-speed stuff. The defence did an unbelievable job for me tonight. I just felt like I had command of all my pitches and was able to throw them on any count."
The Giants' starter, Tim Lincecum, was eager to achieve another ten-digit strikeout game, but was not so efficient to fulfil his desire. Lincecum went wrong right from the start and gave
a two-run homer to Laynce Nix in the second inning. However, he gave just one more run in his final five innings and took out seven batters.
However, he recovered from getting lost completely, but could not gather the thing he had thought. Lincecum was tied with the Christy Mathewson’s franchise mark of 28 double-digit strikeouts
and was hopeful to beat him in this game. Though, Lincecum could not achieve this mark, yet he has more strikeouts than any pitcher in this season, 45.
The reliever, Dan Runzler, pitched just one inning and allowed just one walk. On the other hand, the Giants’ batter just made five hits in combined 29 at-bats.
