Washington Nationals said to be in on 2-year deal with Adam LaRoche
Washington Nationals are trying their best to look on to a better year in 2011. The team has made considerable changes in their roster this year and with strong veterans looking to set themselves up in the squad, things look bright
for the club. The team finished last in the 2010 National League East division.
Furthermore, they had the unfortunate luck of failing to do better against other regional teams last year. The thought surrounding the management at the moment points out at a better club structure in the future. The motive behind
the ideology comes with the inkling that prospects are climbing through the minor leagues and are setting themselves up in the first class team. Forty players need to make spot and with a growing talent base, the Nationals need veterans to train youths in
the system.
The side made a stretch for the top agent this season and one of their pitching lines highlighted a major role in facilitating the young guns in the roster. A dedicated longer tenure in the club tied with exceptional pay out schemes
makes the side a good team in 2011. They made many big teams fall on their knees in amazement when General Manager, Mike Rizzo was able to steer in top free agent, Jayson Werth to the club roster.
Werth tried his best to bring in Cliff Lee as well, but due to stiff competition from leading clubs, the deal could not be realized. Now, there is the aspect of filling out the first baseman role. After Adam Dunn’s move to the
Chicago White Sox, the team has been in need of a top player.
Adam LaRoche has been singled out and the team is engaged in a slow negotiation process thus far. The club and the first baseman are fighting over years in the contract, but reports claim ‘The Nats’ have offered two years. However,
the hitter, who has been with the Arizona Diamondbacks for a long time, is requesting 3 years. He recently talked about the deal.
"If we come on the same page, I would definitely have interest in playing for them," LaRoche said.
In terms of reading the Nationals’ intent, this season, LaRoche gave his view on the situation, citing Werth’s signing for 7 years on a $126 million deal.
"I think it shows how serious the Nationals are about getting the organization back on track and becoming a contender in the National League East," LaRoche said. "They are probably tired of watching other teams [spend money and
winning]. With (Nationals Park) and a little money to spend, they are looking to start over."
