Washington Nationals scoreless as Arizona Diamondbacks take 2-0 win - MLB Update
The Washington Nationals remained scoreless against the Arizona Diamondbacks who defeated them 2-0 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on June 4 in the third of the four game series.
Looks like one shut out was not enough of a lesson for the Nationals to pull up their socks so, the Diamondbacks delivered another humiliating defeat to the Nationals who could not manage to get a single run on the scoreboard. This is the second consecutive
game that the Nationals have remained scoreless against Arizona.
The win now places the Diamondbacks at the top of the National League West, ahead of the reigning World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants. If they keep up their steady improvement for another game and a half, they would lead the National League,
ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Philadelphia Phillies’ offence critics now have a new terrible team to rip apart in the form of Washington. Even though Joe Saunders from the Diamondbacks side faltered at times, the Nationals’ offence just could not pull through.
Luckily, Saunders has managed to learn how to redeem his mistakes and wriggle out of sticky situations that may cost his team a game. He pitched for a good seven innings, although mistakes were made in the first two innings which were comparatively shaky.
Luckily for the Diamondbacks, the Nationals did not cash in on them.
Saunders went on to retire 14 of the batters that faced him in the field. This win marked the third consecutive start that Saunders bagged.
Even manager Kirk Gibson appreciated how Saunders has managed to time and again bounce back by saying, "We'd prefer to not have those situations early, try to correct that somehow, but Joe has been very good at that."
Livan Hernandez started for the Nationals and just like the Phillies’ offence does not back up their aces, the Nationals’ offence failed to back up theirs. Altogether the men from Washington could barely manage to get four hits against Saunders, even though
there were times when opportunities were accidently presented by him.
Hernandez like Saunders pitched a good seven innings where he let two runs off four hits pass him by. This defeat marked the seventh out of 13 times where the Nationals’ offence could muster up one or less runs when Hernandez was on the mound. This outing
marks his seventh loss.
