Washington Nationals’ starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg confident ahead of next season – MLB News
The Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg is felling enormously confident ahead of next season. Currently playing in Arizona in 2012 Major League Spring Training, Strasburg is practicing hard with rest of the Nationals’ roster.
Last year, spending enough time in Nationals’ farm system in Minor League, he made a good display of his fast throwing skills and earned much appreciation from many baseball experts.
Recently, manager Davey Johnson said for Strasburg and his late efforts of perform well in the next season, “I’ll take my five guys or six guys over any staff in the league. Their top three vs. our top three, stuff-wise, we match up as good. The number of
All-Star games and postseason [games], we don’t stack up that good, but they’re capable of getting us there in the next level— if they just do the things they’re capable of doing.”
Later, Strasburg also commented in the media about his future commitments with the team and for his potential preparations ahead of next season. He said, “It felt good. I commanded pitches a lot better [than my first outing on Sunday]. … They really didn’t
hit much.”
Apart from Strasburg’s preparations ahead of next big event in the League, his level of performance was also very satisfactory in the last competition. He went 1.50 at ERA along with 1-1 win loss record, 24 strikeouts and 0.71 WHIP. While overall his career
2.54 ERA with 6-4 win loss record, 116 strikeouts and 0.98 WHIP is also very promising for a player who has only played two years at highest professional level.
Before coming into the Major League’s big arena, Strasburg has also played in the Nationals’ Minor League for quite some time. Experts believe that this late attitude of Strasburg of playing an active role next season, is a good sign for the Nationals’ itself.
The Nationals, who could not perform well last season and lost too many games down the stretch in regular season, are now feeling quite confident ahead of next Major League event just because of Strasburg and some other players’ optimism of productive and
consistent results.
