Washington Nationals stun Miami Marlins 10-7 as Danny Espinosa shines on the plate - MLB Update
The shortstop Danny Espinosa and the right fielder Bryce Harper lead the Washington Nationals to a 10-7 triumph at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. on August 4, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
The Nationals meet the challenge regardless of how hard it is in the first place. With the Marlins leaped to an impressive lead in the game, one can expect that they will give up and will allow them to win the game easily.
However, their ability to accept the challenge and respond to it professionally has reached such a level that even the most hopeless of the circumstances are not disallowing them to record victories.
On Saturday, entering into the eighth, Washington was trailed by two runs. In light of the fact that these were the penultimate moments of the match and under-pressure scoring runs is always difficult, epic display of mastery was required.
Espinosa stepped out of the ranks and launched an amazing upsurge which resulted into the Nationals moving in to the lead and eventually winning the game. Following him, Harper substantiated the lead with a classic home-run.
It was one of the few games where the Marlins were well-poised for defeating the Nationals. However, their bullpen once again became the cause of the downfall.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen was rightly furious after the game, calling into question the role of the relief pitcher, Mike Dunn.
"There you go," he said. "There's the baseball game right there. He gives up a home run, that's fine. But we do the same (stuff) every day, day in and day out. That's the reason why we practice that."
Meanwhile, the Nationals had their starter Jordan Zimmermann leaking five runs in the game in five innings.
Washington's first baseman Adam LaRoche has talked about how mediocre they were in the beginning and the way they improved sharply late in the innings.
"It started out a very sloppy game on our end, really for the majority of that game," LaRoche said. "To turn it around like that, it says something about this club. Not that we should be surprised. We've been doing it all year.”
Losing the game from a situation where they were heading for an easy win can be demoralising for the Marlins. They will be looking to find a way out to beat the Nationals in the last match of the series.
